One easy way to get creative with videos and pictures is to turn yourself into a GIF.
As a GIF you can overlay yourself on other videos and pictures to add visual interest.
But how do you do it?
This article will tell you exactly how to turn yourself into a GIF in three easy steps.

- How to Easily Use the Same Video on IG Reels and TikTok
1. Shoot a video of yourself
The first step is to shoot some video of yourself. When doing this, I recommend the following:
Use a plain background
I used a green screen as my background, but it’s not required. You can just use a plain wall for your background.
The reason this is important is that you want to rely on computer software to automatically remove the background. It’s harder for the software to differentiate between you and the background if the background has a lot of objects.
Wear solid clothing in a different color than your background
If you wear the same color shirt as your background, the computer software will have a hard time distinguishing between you and your background. Make it easy for the software and wear a different color than your background.
I recommend wearing a solid color because people tend to use GIFs as very small images. If you wear something with a lot of patterns and colors, it’ll be harder for others to see what the GIF is actually doing.
Record basic gestures
When shooting your video, record yourself making basic gestures. Think along the lines of emojis, like thumbs up, pointing, shrugging, etc.
The more basic your gesture, the easier it will be for people to understand the purpose of the GIF.
2. Remove video background & create GIF
Next step is removing the background from your video (or, making the background transparent).
There are several apps you can use to either manually or automatically remove the background from your video.
I prefer to use Unscreen because it’s easy to use. There’s a free version that includes a watermark and a monthly paid version that removes the watermark.
You simply load your video to Unscreen and it automatically removes the background for you.
Once the background is removed, Unscreen notifies you that you can download the video in GIF format.
3. Load your GIF to Giphy
You’ll need to post your GIF to Giphy if you want your GIF to be searchable via a social media app.
This process is very straightforward. You simply create a free account and load your GIF file to giphy.com.
The site will ask you to create tags for your GIF. These tags will be the search terms attached to the GIF.
I use simple tags that reflect the GIF’s activity (like “thumbs up” and “good news”). I also tag my social media handle (eastbymidwest) so that I can search for all my GIFs using a single search term.
If you have a website, you can link your website to the GIF.
Pro Tip: It may take a little time for your GIF to be loaded from Giphy to the various social media sites. Give it a little time (sometimes days) to be loaded to the social media apps.
That’s it! You should now know how to turn yourself into a GIF. The possibilities of fun GIFs are practically endless. Happy creating!
